Tobacco Products Hit By Budget Increases

Forty cents is to be added to a packet of cigarettes, alongside a pro-rata increase on other tobacco products, it has been revealed in the government's new Budget.

A packet of 20 cigarettes will now cost close to €10.

A pro-rata increase on other tobacco products will see 20 cents added to the cost of a 25g pouch of roll your own tobacco.

Cash & 65,000 Cigarettes Seized In Cork
A revenue operation in Cork has resulted in over 65,000 unstamped cigarettes being taken out of circulation and €1,350 cash seized. The intelligence led operation was carried out in a residential part of the city on Thursday 15 August. A man was later questioned as a result.

Tobacco Free Ireland Report Published
The Minister for Health Simon Harris has welcomed the publication of the 2015 Annual Report on the Tobacco Free Ireland Action Plan. Tobacco Free Ireland was launched under the Healthy Ireland framework in 2013 and sets a target for Ireland to be tobacco free (that is, with a smoking prevalence rate of less than 5%) by the year 2025.
