Google Receives Irish 'Right To Be Forgotten' Requests

Google has confirmed it has received a number of "right to be forgotten" requests from people in Ireland.

The "right to be forgotten" process came into force in May 2014, which allows individuals to seek the removal of certain search results relating to them.

The search engine has said it had received 1,443 requests from people in Ireland in the last four months.

In its transparency report, the company said it evaluated 4,175 URLs were evaluated by Google as part of the "right to be forgotten" ruling, and of those, 1,014 – or 29.8% – had been removed. The remaining 70.1% had not been removed.

Across Europe, Google received a total of 144,954 requests from across Europe, evaluating 497,695 links for removal during the same period. 41.8% had been removed, with the remaining left alone.

Of the sites affected by the removals, Facebook, profileengine.com, YouTube and badoo.com saw the most URLs removed.
