'Giant' Co Tipperary Windfarm Given Go Ahead

A proposed "giant" wind farm in Co Tipperary has been given planning permission by An Bord Pleanála.

The farm, to be sited just 2km from the village of Upperchurch, will create enough electricity to power some 23,000 homes, Ecopower Developments have said.

It is understood that the turbines will stand at 413ft, making them taller than Dublin's Spire.

Construction of the farm will create 277 temporary and eight permanent jobs.

There is understood to have been widespread local opposition over the proposal.
