7,000 Referrals Made By New Electronic System

An electronic referral system for GP appointments has been introduced at a number of hospital's following the HSE's pilot scheme at Mercy University Hospital in Cork.

The new system for public outpatient hospital appointments has been introduced at Mallow General Hospital, Cork University Hospital, the South Infirmary-Victoria University Hospital, Kerry General Hospital and Bantry General Hospital.

The HSE say that some 7,000 electronic referrals have been made using the system with almost 300 Cork and Kerry-based GPs signing up to use the system. Another 40 GPs in the Dublin area have also adopted the new system.

Several significant changes have been made to the outline of the Bill, which was published in April. Man Attacked In East Cork
Gardaí are appealing for information after a man in his 40s was attacked in east Cork on Tuesday. The victim was assaulted at Meat Shambles Lane in Youhal at around 3pm. He is currently being treated at Cork University Hospital, however his injures are not believed to be life-threatening. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

Pensioner Dies In Co Monaghan Road Crash
A pensioner has died following a road collision in Co Monaghan. The two-vehicle incident occurred on the R188, Monaghan to Cootehill road, at Stranooden on Saturday. A passenger in one of the cars, a female aged in her 80s, was taken by ambulance to Cavan General Hospital, however she was later pronounced dead.

Man Dies In Road Accident In Co Wicklow
A man in his 20s has died in a road crash in County Wicklow. The accident, between a car and a tractor, happened at Kilpipe near Aughrim, just after 9.30am on Thursday morning. The driver of the tractor was taken to Naas General Hospital, however his injuries are not believed to be serious.
