Thousands Of Dublin Homes Without Power

Around 3,000 homes in Dublin are without power due to damaged underground cables, ESB has reported.

It is understood that the power dropped on Wednesday due to damaged underground cables in the Crumlin area.

ESB have said that technicians are working on repairing the cables and hope to have power restored to all those affected by early afternoon.

Five Arrested Over Theft Of ESB Power Cables
Five men have been arrested in connection with the theft of ESB overhead power cables in a gardaí operation. Gardaí attached to the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, assisted by local Gardaí from Kildare and the Garda Air Support Unit, launched the arrest operation. Two of the men have been released without charge and investigations are continuing.

Winds Leave Tens Of Thousands Without Power
Tens of thousand of homes, farms and businesses across Donegal, Sligo, Galway and Mayo have been left without power following strong winds overnight. Engineers are working to reconnect some 35,000 customers in the areas affected by Storm Hector.

Govt U-Turn On Sale Of Midlands Power Stations
News that the government has reversed its decision to sell ESB power stations in the Midlands has been welcomed by Fianna Fáil. In October last year the government announced plans to seel two peat-burning power stations in the Midlands despite a previous commitment that it would not.

More Than 2,500 ESB Customers Without Power
More than 2,500 ESB customers are without power following outages in the south east and south west. The company has said that some 1,700 customers in the Enniscorthy and Arklow areas have been affected, along with around 900 homes and businesses in the Killarney and Bandon regions.

Landfill-Gas Power Plant Officially Launched
A new landfill-gas power plant that will generate enough electricity for over 8,000 homes has been officially launched by Bord na Móna and Minister for the Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte. The Landfill Gas Power Plant at Drehid, Co Kildare, will use household waste byproduct to produce 5.6 megawatts of renewable power.
