Rail Workers Vote For Strike Action Over Cuts Dispute

Rail workers have voted in favour of strike action later this month should Iarnród Éireann proceeds with planned pay cuts.

The National Bus and Rail Union has agreed the strike, in an ongoing dispute over pay cuts.

Iarnród Éireann claimed that the pay cuts are essential to securing the company's future viability, adding that it would proceed with the temporary cuts, ranging from 1.7% to 6.1%, on 24 August.

Iarnród Éireann Unions Reject Cost Saving Plan
Union members at Iarnród Éireann have voted to reject the rail company's proposed cost cutting plan. The National Bus and Rail Union voted to reject the proposal by a majority of 82%, while 71% of SIPTU members rejected it. One union, the Transport and Salaried Staff Association, did vote to accept the measures.

Rail Services Disrupted By Strikes
Rail services have returned to normal following two days of strikes in a dispute over pay cuts. The National Bus and Rail Union and SIPTU members went on strike on Sunday and Monday, with commuter, DART and Intercity services being suspended. The strike action came as Iarnród Éireann implemented pay cuts on Sunday (24 August).

Translink Workers Reject Pay Offer
Translink NI workers have rejected a pay offer from the public transport company. Unite, GMB and SIPTU confirmed that their members has "decisively voted to reject as inadequate" a pay offer made by Translink management. Workers were offered a 5% pay increase and a non-consolidated one-off payment of £1,500 for the 2023-2024 financial year.
