Two Pilots Returned To Sea Found Stranded Again

Two pilot whales re-floated by members of the public yesterday, despite the advice of experts, have become stranded again.

A pod of 13 whales were discovered on the beach in Falcarragh, Co Dongeal, on Monday.

To date eight of them have died.

Volunteers had worked on Monday and Tuesday to return the whales to the sea but they have reappeared on the beach each time.

Experts had advised on Tuesday to leave the whales alone and allow them to day naturally. It was claimed that repeated attempts to return the whale to the sea caused them to become increasingly distressed. Experts said that leaving the whales alone would allow nature to take its course.

Four whales remained on the beach on Wednesday and ignoring the advice a group of people re-floated two, that they said appeared to be in good condition.

The whales were discovered beached again this morning; one on Inis bó Finne and the other near Cnoc Fola Donegal.

Experts have again called on the public to let the whales die naturally.
