Inquest Opens Into 2011 Cork Airport Crash

An inquest has opened into a plane crash at Cork Airport that killed six people in 2011.

The crash happened on the 10 February when a 19-seater Metroliner aircraft crashed at Cork Airport on its third attempt to land in dense fog. The flight had arrived from Belfast and was carrying 10 passengers and 2 crew.

The inquest into the crash began this morning and will hear from survivors of the crash and members of the emergency crews that responded.

A previously published report from the Air Accident Investigation Unit highlighted "insufficient consideration of weather conditions" by the crew.

The inquest is expected to last for two days.

Meath Coach Crash Inquest Opens
An inquest has opened in Trim into a Bus Éireann crash which killed five schoolgirls in Co Meath three years ago. Claire McCluskey, Deirdre Scanlon, Lisa Callan, Aimee McCabe and Sinead Ledwidge died when the coach they were travelling in overturned on the Navan-Kentstown road in May 2005.
