Dublin City Set For Reduced Speed Limit

Dublin City Council has announced that they are to reduce the speed limit for motorists within the city centre area to 30km/h.

The 30km/h limit will be introduced to key areas in the capital including Westmoreland Street, Dame Street, D’Olier Street, the north and south quays and other streets in the city centre.

The current speed limit in these areas is 50km/h and the sizeable reduction is understood to be part of a new initiative to prevent the deaths of cyclists and pedestrians.

City Council officials have already held discussions with the National Roads Authority about delisting roads in the capital that are currently designated as national primary roads, which needs be done to allow the speed limit reduction.

A 30km/h limit already applies to O’Connell Street, parts of Talbot Street and Temple Bar.
