Swimming Pool Drowning Investigated

There has been two Irish drowning tragedies within 24 hours of each other.

In the Irish Republic, a post mortem is to be carried out later today on the body of an eight-year-old boy who drowned in a Co Meath swimming pool yesterday.

The victim got into difficulty in the pool at Navan Leisure Centre on Thursday afternoon.

His body was taken to Navan Hospital, where the child's body is expected to be examined later by the Coroner.

Meanwhile, searches are continuing in Co Antrim for a 14-year-old boy who was swept away in the River Bush yesterday.

He is believed to have jumped into the water to rescue his dog.

A man - a PSNI officer who is the victim's father - and another boy had to be rescued from the water.

The dog, which belonged to the missing boy, also emerged safely from the swollen river's waters.
