Council Threatens To Pay Less For Clamping Services If Targets Are Not Met
Dublin Bay North Labour TD Sean Kenny, a member of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, has commented on news reports that Dublin City Council has threatened to pay less for their clamping services if revenue targets are not met.
Mr Kenny said: "It has been reported in the media that a letter sent to employees of the clamping company employed by Dublin City Council claims that Dublin City Council has threatened to pay less for clamping services unless targets set by the Council are met.
"Dublin City Council appear to have set a target of 60,000 Dublin vehicles to be clamped this year and as a result the company has offered various incentives to staff. I believe that this is a mistaken policy approach.
"Dublin City Council should be using clamping as a transport policy tool to persuade people to make a choice to switch to using public transport, cycling or walking, rather than commuting by car daily into the city - it should not be using clamping as a purely revenue raising exercise, and it should not be taking steps that see the company doing the clamping work resort to incentivising staff to clamp more cars."

The pup was freed from a car in Dublin city centre after being stranded there for almost one week, after his owner forgot where he parked. The dog survived on condensation from the windows in a story which is being dubbed the 'Miracle on George's Quay'.

DCC Publish New Transport Study Proposals
A public consultation is to be launched tomorrow on Dublin City Council's (DCC) new transport study, which lays out a number of proposals to "enhance overall movement in the city". DCC said that traffic congestion in the city is "already rising" and morning-peak journeys are estimated to rise by more than 40,000 by 2023.
