Sinn Féin Call For Dáil Discussion On Whistleblower Accusations

The government has been urged to set aside time in the Dáil to discuss the latest revelations of malpractice within An Garda Síochána and allegations that the Minister for Justice failed to act on important information.

Making the call Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams said that he had written to the Taoiseach last Friday asking him to make a statement on the allegations contained in the dossier from the whistleblower Garda Maurice McCabe.

Mr Adams said: "Given the gravity of these claims and the urgent need for public confidence in the policing and justice system in this state, it is imperative that Dáil discusses these matters.

"So far the Taoiseach has not responded to my request to make a statement to the Dáil. Therefore, Sinn Féin has this morning written to the Ceann Comhairle requesting that he set aside time under Standing Order 33 so that the Dáil can discuss these very serious issues."
