Thousands Without Power After Severe Overnight Weather

Severe weather overnight has left some 7,000 homes and businesses without power.

According to reports, most of those affected are in west Co Donegal and north Co Mayo, where a number of power lines are down.

ESB repair crews have been working overnight in an effort to restore power and it is understood that a number of additional crews will be dispatched at first light.

There has also been reports of heavy snowfall in counties Sligo, Laois and Mayo, with AA Roadwatch warning of very dangerous conditions nationwide.

ESB Worked Overnight To Restore Power To Homes And Businesses
ESB Networks are continuing to restore power to homes and businesses across Ireland following Storm Brendan. At its height on Monday, some 50,000 properties were without power as strong winds and heavy rain tracked across the country. ESB crews worked overnight to restore power as quickly as possible.

An estimated 7,000 homes have been left without power after strong winds overnight damages electricity lines. The worst affected area is the southwest, around 5,000 customers, mainly in Killarney in Co Kerry and Bandon in Co Cork, have lost supply.

Fire Crews Work Overnight To Contain Blaze At Recycling Plant
Firefighters have spent the night tackling a large blaze at a recycling plant in Co Meath. The fire broke out at Panda Waste at around 11.30pm last night. Despite employing some 250 of the company’s total work force of 440 no injuries have been reported.

Investigation Underway After Man's Body Discovered In Rathfarnham
An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man's body in a house in Rathfarnham in Dublin. Gardaí report that the body of a 42-year-old man was found at his home in Marley Court at about 17:00 on Thursday. It is understood that the man's father made the discovery and that the man's body was laying at the foot of the stairs.
