Dublin Wins City Council Of The Year

Dublin City Council has been named City County Council of the year.

The honour was awarded at the 10th Annual Excellence in Local Government Awards event, held in association with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government on 13 November 2013.

Dublin City Council was won awards for the Fairview Park Improvement Project, the Pathway Accommodation and Support System (PASS) and the Tolka Valley Greenway Project.

Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Henry Upton said: "The awards presented to Dublin City Council showcase its innovation in technology and environmental sustainability. These awards underline the talents, enthusiasm and hard work which contribute to the continued social, cultural and economic growth of the city."

DCC Grant MCD Phoenix Park License
Three concerts to be held next week in Phoenix Park are to go ahead, after Dublin City Council granted licenses, despite complaints, to promoter MCD. Local residents had raised objections to the shows in light of last summer's Swedish House Mafia concert, at which six people were stabbed, 40 were treated for injuries and 30 were arrested.

Dubliners Urged To Conserve Water
Dublin City Council is urging residents to conserve water as the threat of a shortage looms. In a statement from the council over the weekend, residents have been told that due to a "huge increase" in demand for water, all areas will have their supply restricted over the weekend.

DCC Publish New Transport Study Proposals
A public consultation is to be launched tomorrow on Dublin City Council's (DCC) new transport study, which lays out a number of proposals to "enhance overall movement in the city". DCC said that traffic congestion in the city is "already rising" and morning-peak journeys are estimated to rise by more than 40,000 by 2023.

Dublin City Centre Offers Christmas On-Street Parking Saving
Motorists can make Christmas savings this December thanks to Dublin City Council’s Christmas Parking Promotion. Anyone can park in on-street car parking spaces for €1 per hour every Saturday and Sunday in December in Dublin city centre’s core trading area. This comprises over 800 on-street parking spaces.

Gov Accuses Labour Of 'Disarray' Over Speed Limit
The Government has criticised the Labour Party, calling it a "shambles" over a reversal on their policy on the Dublin City speed limit controversy. Fianna Fail TD, Chris Andrews accused the Labour Party of "disarray" within its ranks over the controversial 30kph speed limit imposed by Labour councillors in Dublin city centre.
