Archbishop Warns Of Food Parcel Shortage

Social care agency Crosscare does not have enough food to meet demand, the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin has warned.

Dr Diarmuid Martin has issued a warning that the diocese's social care agency cannot meet the demand of impoverished families, and called for parishes to provide "urgent help" in the lead up to Christmas.

Crosscare provide supplies of food and toilets to not just impoverished families but also to 10 other charities including St Vincent de Paul in Dublin and Wicklow.

Dr Martin highlighted that in one community just 40 parcels of food were provided last week when 120 were needed.

It is understood that Crosscare will send collection vans for food and toiletries to all parishes throughout December.
