Crime Conference To Review Garda Operations In 2013

Gardaí targeting individuals and gangs involved in burglaries across Ireland have made almost 7,000 arrests.

The figures have been revealed ahead of a two-day crime conference starting today at Templemore.

The figures for Operation Fiacla also show that of those arrested almost 4,000 have been charged and brought before the courts.

The crime conference will review all garda operations undertaken in the past year, while also looking at community and traffic policing.

Four Arrested Following Garda Searches
Four men have been arrested following searches by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau. The operation was carried out in connection with a murder in Dublin on 10 March 2018. This morning, 05 December, arrests were made in Dublin and Louth.

Over 100 Arrests Made In Organised Crime Sweep
113 people have been arrested as part of an operation targeting organised crime. Gardaí carried out some 236 planned searches across the country in relation to the investigation. Around 4,200 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €3.5 million were seized at five grow houses in counties Cork, Meath, Wexford and Dublin yesterday.

Cowen Popular As Budget Decisions Loom
Finance Minister Brian Cowen is being kept busy by various groups – each lobbying for a break in the forthcoming 2008 Budget. One of the latest to knock his door in advance of the December 5th Budget Day was the Combat Poverty Agency. It is calling on the Government to increase education grants for lower income groups in the upcoming budget.
