Garda Launch Investigation Into Baby's Death

An investigation has been launched into the sudden death of a six-month-old baby found in Dublin city this morning.

The baby girl was found at around 07:30 this morning at Sherrard Avenue, near Dorset St.

She was pronounced dead after being taken to Temple Street Hospital.

Garda are investigating the circumstances surrounding the baby's discovery and death, although it is understood that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place later today.

Body Of Baby Found In Bin
The body of a newborn baby has been found in a bin in Co Cork. The discovery was made at a property in the city on Thursday after the baby's mother presented herself to gardaí, it has been reported. The body was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out.

TUI Says Thousands More Secondary School Teachers Will Be Needed
The Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI) has said that 4,500 more secondary school teachers will be needed by 2026 to meet growing classroom numbers. The union said that figures published on the website of the Department of Education & Skills suggest there will 86,000 more students by 2026.

Waterford Hospital Getting Major Boost
Building work has begun at Waterford Regional Hospital to fit a new A&E and regional Special Care Baby Unit The new facilities will replace the existing services and are expected to be completed over a two year period. They are expected open on a phased basis to allow existing services to continue.

Investigation Launches Into Third Baby Death At Maternity Ward
A new investigation has begun into the death of a baby at the maternity unit in Cavan hospital on Wednesday morning. It is the third baby to die in the last 18 months at the busy maternity unit, with a baby boy dying at the unit last month.
