Fr Doran Resigns From Mater Hospital Board

Following confirmation that the Mater Hospital in Dublin would abide by the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill, Fr Kevin Doran has resigned from the hospital's Board of Governors and the Board of Directors.

Fr Doran had previously said that as a Catholic hospital, the Mater could not comply with the new law as it against its ethos. However, last week the hospital released a statement saying that it would act in accordance with the abortion law.

Fr Doran is understood to have said that he could not "reconcile his conscience" with the hospital's decision.
