Man Arrested Over Woman's Death And Pub Siege

The discovery of a woman's body in Drumbannon lead to a nine-hour seige in a pub in Bailieborough and the eventual arrest of a 56-year-old man.

Gardaí were responding to a reports of concern for a woman's wellbeing when they discovered her body at a house on the Drumbannon estate at around 19:00 on Thursday evening.

It is understood she is believed to have been the victim of an assault, and some reports suggest a gunshot wound.

Initial inquiries lead gardaí wanting to speak with a man, understood to be the 56-year-old victims estranged husband.

When gardaí arrived at the Square Bar in Bailieborough to speak to the man, he produced a shotgun and barricaded himself in the basement.

Garda say that the area was quickly sealed off and specialist gardaí negotiators were brought to speak with the man.

The stand-off ended at around 03:20 on Friday morning with the man surrendering to garda.

He is now being held at Bailieborough Garda Station and can be questioned for up to seven days.

Garda have appealed for information from any one who saw anything suspicious in the Drumbannon on Thursday evening.

Simon Quinn was reported missing after last being seen at around 2.30am on Monday, 30 July. 70-Year-Old Man Arrested Over Fatal Accident That Killed Cyclist
A 70-year-old man has been arrested by gardaí investigating a fatal road traffic accident in Gneeveguilla, Co Kerry. A cyclist was fatally injured when hit by a car in Scrahanfadda, on Sunday, 01 July. The elderly man is being detained at Bandon Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4- Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Girl Arrested As McAnaspie Case Continues
A juvenile has become the most recent arrest as part of the investigation into the murder of Daniel McAnaspie. The girl was arrested yesterday afternoon and is being detained in Blanchardstown Garda station under Sec 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

Missing Man Found 'Safe And Well'
A missing 24-year-old man has been found "safe and well". Alex Sherwin had been reported missing on Sunday, with garda issuing a public appeal for assistance. No information on Mr Sherwin's whereabouts have been released, but garda said the investigation had now ended. They thanked the public for their help.

Cocaine And Cannabis Seized In Co Kildare
Cocaine and cannabis herb worth an estimated €34,000 has been seized in Moone, Co Kildare. As part of a planned search of a premises at Lower Belan, garda uncovered €14,000 worth of cocaine and €20,000 worth of cannabis, shortly before midnight on Sunday, 12 June.
