New Earth Observation Station Opens In Cork

Irelands first ever Earth Observation Station has been officially opened at the National Space Centre in Cork by Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

Some €80 million will be invested in the centre over the next ten years as it aims to identify and track space junk. It is hoped that the centre can secure lucrative contracts with the European, Russian and US space agencies.

The centre, commissioned by Canadian firm ExactEarth, will also be used to track vessels on any of the world's oceans via satellite.
