Leinster House To Open For Culture Night

Leinster House is to open its doors to 1,650 members of the public as part of the nationwide Culture Night Festival.

The gates of Leinster House will be opened for an evening of culture and entertainment in the surroundings of the Irish Parliament this Friday 20 September from 17:00 to 23:00.

Visitors will be able to take part in guided tours of the building, featuring access to the debating chambers of both Dáil and Seanad Éireann.

The event is part of this year’s Culture Night festival, organised by the Temple Bar Cultural trust.

This is the sixth year in which the Houses of the Oireachtas has participated in the event.

Since the Oireachtas’ involvement five years ago, almost 8,000 people have passed through the doors of Leinster House.

It is just one of over 150 venues in Dublin confirmed for Culture Night.

The Oireacthas press office is reminding the public that, while the tours are free, it is a ticketed event will a limit of four per person.

The event began in Ireland in 2006 with 40,000 people taking part.

Fianna Fáil has committed to bringing forward legislation aimed at improving road safety for cyclists. Spokesperson on Transport, Tourism and Sport Robert Troy, Deputy Troy made the commitment after attending the Stop Killing Cyclists vigil which was held outside Leinster House yesterday evening.

Garda Representatives Protest Outside Leinster House
A protest is underway outside Leinster House by about 30 representatives of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors and the Garda Representative Association in an ongoing dispute over cuts in earnings under the extension of the Croke Park Agreement.

Carers Protest Respite Care Grant Cut
More than 300 full-time carers and supporters gathered outside Leinster House to demand the restoration of the Respite Care Grant, following a cut made as part of the Budget. Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton has insisted the reduction was necessary.
