Swimmer Forced To Abandon Challenge

Steve Redmond has been forced to abandon an attempt to become the first person to swim from Ireland to Wales.

According to RTE, the 48-year-old was forced to pull out of the swim in the early hours of Thursday morning following advice from his support team.

Mr Redmond started his challenge from Carne Pier, Wexford last night, but it is understood he started showing signs of hypothermia just hours into the swim.

He had hoped to reach Wales about 35 hours after leaving Ireland to raise funds for the RNLI.

Redmond previously made history after he became the first person to complete the Ocean's Seven Challenge.

Ocean's Seven is a group of seven long distance swims located around the world, including the Irish Channel, the English Channel and the Strait of Gibraltar.
