Bodies Of Missing Brothers Found In Fathers Crashed Car

The bodies of two brothers at the centre of a garda search have been found in the boot of their fathers crashed car in Co Mayo.

The brothers, Ruairi Chada, ten, and his five-year-old brother Eoghan had been reported missing at around 01:30 on Monday morning.

They had left home on Sunday evening to go bowling with their father, but never arrived at Dome Bowling Centre in Carlow.

The alarm was raised after a family member received a distressed message from the boys father, Sanjeev Chada.

A Child Rescue Ireland Alert was issued, the first one to be used in the State, which led to nationwide alerts, broadcasts, social media and traffic and travel messages being broadcast.

Around 16:00 on Monday garda responding to reports of a single-vehicle crash around 2.5km from Westport uncovered the boys bodies in the boot of the crashed car.

It is understood that garda believe the two brothers died before the crash took place.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out today to try and determine the exact cause of the boys deaths.

43-year-old Sanjeev received injuries in the crash but they are not thought to be life-threatening, he is being treated at Mayo General Hospital.

The scene of the crash has been sealed to allow for a forensic examination.

Garda have appealed to the public for any information about the cars whereabouts leading up to the crash.

The green Ford Focus, registration number 06 CW 238, was last seen near Bagnelstown, Co Carlow yesterday evening.

Anybody with information is asked to contact Westport Garda Station on 098 50230.
