'On-The-Spot' Fine Introduced For Cycling Offences

New legislation has been introduced that will allow Gardaí to issue 'on-the-spot' fines to cyclist for offences including riding on the footpath and running red lights.

The new fine will be a minimum of €50 and will introduced before the end of the year.

It is understood that the fines are being introduced in an effort to tackle dangerous activity by cyclists, and to speed up the process of dealing with offenders as currently they go through the courts.
