New Legislation To Protect Whistleblowers

New legislation has been introduced to protect whistleblowers.

Addressing what ministers described as a "significant gap" in the legal framework to combat corruption, under the Protected Disclosures Bill 2013, workers who are victimised for whistleblowing could receive up to five years remuneration in compensation.

Under the new legislation workers who are ruled as being unfairly dismissed could be awarded up to five years remuneration, and will also no longer have to have been employed for a year before they can be ruled unfairly dismissed.

The identity of the whistleblower will also be protected, "as far as is possible".
