Three 'Significant' Arrests Made In Insurance Fraud Investigation

Three men have been arrested in Co Cork in connection with fraudulent insurance claims.

The three arrests made on Thursday morning bring the total number of people arrested in connection with the investigation, to 20.

Operation Nascar has been ongoing for several months and is understood to involve false insurance claims worth tens of thousands of euros.

The investigation is looking into allegations of staged road crashes, and the potential of organised crime involvement, with one of the men arrested today detained on suspicion of directing a criminal organisation in committing serious offences, according to garda.

It is understood today's arrests, made at addresses in Mallow, Midleton and Newmarket, are the most significant to date.
