Bayley Jailed For Life For Murdering Jill Meagher

A man has been put behind bars for life for the murder of Irishwoman Jill Meagher In Melbourne, Australia, in September last year.

Adrian Ernest Bayley, 41, pleaded guilty to raping and murdering Mrs Meagher and was sentenced to life imprisonment for the killing, and 15 years for rape.

He will not be able to apply for parole for at least 35 years.

Judge Geoffrey Nettle said: “I am satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that you intended to kill her. You could've easily controlled her but whether it was a sadistic pleasure for hurting women or fear of being caught, you strangled her when she threatened to call the police.

"This was particularly heinous as you hid the body and were on parole at the time."

Mrs Meagher's dad, George McKeon, said: "The police and prosecutors have ensured that justice has been done and we as a family want to thank them for this."

Translink Workers Reject Pay Offer
Translink NI workers have rejected a pay offer from the public transport company. Unite, GMB and SIPTU confirmed that their members has "decisively voted to reject as inadequate" a pay offer made by Translink management.
