Provisional Trial Date Set For Hyde Park Bombing Accused

The trial date for 61-year-old John Downey, accused of the 1982 IRA Hyde Park bombing which killed four British soldiers, has provisionally been set for November 18.

Downey, of Co Donegal, was arrested at Gatwick Airport in April.

He is charged in connection with a car bomb left in South Carriage Drive, which killed the four soldiers as they made their way to the changing of the guard.

The blast also killed seven horses and injured other soldiers from the Royal Household Cavalry.

He will appear in court again on September 06.

A man accused of the 1982 IRA bombing that killed four British Soldiers has been granted bail. Household Cavalry soldiers Roy Bright, Dennie Daly, Simon Tipper and Geoffrey Young were killed in an explosion as they rode to the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace.

Irishman John Downey has been charged with the murder of four British soldiers in the 1982 Hyde Park IRA bombing at the Old Bailey Court in London. Downey, 63, from Co Donegal, was arrested on Sunday at Gatwick airport. He is accused of being responsible for a car bomb in South Carriage Drive.

Co Donegal Charged Hyde Park Bombing Murders
