Teachers' Unions Invited To Revised Croke Park II Talks

Three teachers unions have been formally invited by the Labour Relations Commission to become involved in ongoing negotiations around the revised Croke Park II agreement.

The unions, the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation, the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland and the Teachers’ Union of Ireland all rejected the original Croke Park II proposals.

According to RTÉ the invitation would be put to the executive councils of each union over the weekend.

Unions Split In Croke Park II Extension Vote
The Croke park II agreement has been accepted by the Prison Officers' Association (POA), who voted yes with a majority of 28%. The POA had recommended acceptance. The vote resulted in 64% for and 36% against. Meanwhile, SIPTU has voted to reject the proposed extension by a margin of 53.7% against 46.3% in favour.

Unions Discuss Draft Croke Park II Response
Representatives of public sector workers unions are to meet to discuss a draft joint letter in response to the Croke Park II proposals, which they are opposed to. The INMO, CPSU, IMO and UNITE, amongst others, are discussing the possibility of writing to the the Public Services Committee.

INTO Members Vote To Accept Haddington Road Proposals
Members if the Irish National Teachers' Organisation have voted to accept the proposed Haddington Road agreement, with a majority of 63% in favour and 37% against. The unions executive had recommended its 32,000 members to accept the proposals, after the union had soundly rejected the previous Croke Park II offering.
