Unions Split In Croke Park II Extension Vote

The Croke park II agreement has been accepted by the Prison Officers' Association (POA), who voted yes with a majority of 28%.

The POA had recommended acceptance. The vote resulted in 64% for and 36% against.

Meanwhile, SIPTU has voted to reject the proposed extension by a margin of 53.7% against 46.3% in favour.

SIPTU General President Jack O'Connor said that the vote reflected the sense of grievance among working people and public service workers, in particular, that they are carrying an excessive burden in the post-crisis adjustment.

This followed just minutes after an agreement from IMPACT, whose members voted to accept the agreement by a margin of 56% to 44%.

The union will now cast all its votes in favour of the proposed agreement at the ICTU Public Services Committee meeting tomorrow.
