Gun Connected To 11 Year Old Murder

A handgun used in a gangland murder over 11 years ago has been recovered by garda, following an investigation by the Emergency Response Unit (ERU).

The ERU was looking activity by dissident republican groups.

According to the Irish Independent, details of the guns recovery came out on Monday evening as garda questioned two suspects over the murder of drugs courier David McCreevy.

McCreevy shot dead outside his parents' home in February 2002.

He was on bail at the time of his death and was a key target in a major garda investigation into gangland drug running.

The handgun and a number of other weapons were seized last year by garda in raids on suspected dissident republican groups.

Ballistics tests on the weapon confirm it as the one used in the murder of McGreevy.

Details of the connection were only revealed on Monday evening following the arrests of two men in connection with the murder.
