Wharrie Loses Drug Conviction Appeal
An Englishman has lost his appeal against a conviction for his involvement in the biggest drugs haul in the history of the State.
53-year-old Perry Wharrie received a 30-year prison sentence in connection with the smuggling of €440m worth of cocaine at Dunlough Bay, Mizen Head, Co Cork on 2 July, 2007.
Today presiding judge Mr Justice John MacMenamin, sitting with Mr Justice Eamon deValera and Mr Justice Brian McGovern, upheld his conviction, saying the CCA was satisfied to "reject each point on the appeal against conviction."
Wharrie, from Loughton in Essex, was unanimously found guilty in July 2008 by a Cork Circuit Criminal Court jury over the course of a trial that lasted 42 days.

12 Years For Double Rapist
A 34-year-old man, who drugged and raped two women after luring them to his home in Dublin, has been jailed for 12 years for. Kapil Garg, a computer specialist originally from India but living in Whitefriar Place in Dublin 8, had pleaded not guilty but a jury found him guilty of the offences, which took place in his rented room in July 2011.
