Authority Criticises Housing Refusal Offers

Cork County Council has criticised the high number of people refusing offers of social housing.

Warning that refusals were clogging the system and delaying housing offers for genuine applicants, the local authority highlighted an incident when one family refused a council house because there wasn't room in the garden for a trampoline.

In one three-month period, the Cork authority made a total of 60 housing placement offers in a single Glanmire estate on the outskirts of Cork city, of which 50% were refused.

It is understood that the problem of housing offers being refused is also effecting waiting lists in Dublin, Galway and Waterford.
