Teen Remanded In Custody After Breaking Bail Conditions

A 17-year-old boy has been remanded in custody after continually breaking bail continues.

He is charged with the robbery of a 27-year-old woman on the evening of February 25 last at Beresford Place, Dublin 1.

It is understood that during the ‘phone snatch’ robbery the teenager tore hair from the woman’s head.

Dublin Children's Court heard that the boy had repeatedly broken bail conditions over recent weeks, had repeatedly failed to sign on at a garda station as required and had not been home during curfew hours set by the juvenile court at an earlier stage.

Judge Patrick Clyne evoked his bail and remanded him in custody adding that the DPP's directions need to be obtained urgently, as it is these that will decide whether the 17-year-old is tried in juvenile court or dealt with in the Circuit Court, which has wider sentencing powers.
