7-Year-Old Dies After River Fall

A 7-year-old boy has died after falling into a river near his home in Midleton, Co Cork on Sunday.

It is understood that the boy was playing with friends near his home in Tir Cluain when he fell into the Owenacurra River around19:00.

Two neighbours pulled the child from the water about 250 metres from where he went in.

After undergoing emergency treatment at Cork University Hospital he was transferred by helicopter to Our Lady's Hospital Crumlin, Dublin, where he died a short time later.

Teenager Dies Following River Fall
A teenager has died after falling from his horse and into a river in Co Cork. It is understood the 16-year-old was riding the horse on the banks of the Glashaboy River in Glanmire. The animal entered the swollen river but stumbled and the teenager was thrown into the water and swept downstream. Two of his friend's raised the alarm.

Met Éireann Issues Weather Warning
Met Éireann has issued a yellow weather warning for a number of counties in Ireland as heavy rain is expected within the next few hours. The 'Be Aware' warning has been issued for Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow.

Met Éireann Issues Weather Warning
A weather warning has been issued by Met Éireann and will be in place for most of the day (Friday). The yellow warning comes as up to 40mm of rain is due to fall today, with winds also reaching gale force. Rain is expected to move southeastwards throughout the day and will be heavy in places.

Baby Dies In Window Fall In Cork
A 22-month-old baby girl has died after falling from the third-storey window of a house in Cork City. It is understood that the child was found on the footpath outside the house on Hardwick Street by a passing motorist around 12:30pm on Sunday.

Two Die In Separate Cork Drowning Incidents
A 17-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man have died in separate drowning incidents in Co Cork over the weekend. A 17-year-old got into difficulties while swimming in the River Blackwater in north Cork, at an area known as Lisheen Bridge. He was taken to Kerry General hospital by air ambulance but died in the early hours of Monday morning.
