€300m Research And Development Fund Announced
A new €300m research and development package funded by the Exchequer, the academic sector and private industry has been announced by the government.
The largest ever state/industry co-funded research investment here it is hoped the fund will raise the profile of academic research and help in attracting foreign investment, the government have said.
Minister of State Sean Sherlock and Science Foundation Ireland will oversee the money, which will provided over the next six years with a mid-term review.
Marine renewable energy, nanotechnology and food for health and functional foods are among the research activities expected to benefit. Alongisde photonics, perinatal translational research, drug synthesis and crystallisation and ''Big Data''.

€13.5m Funding Into Health Research
€13.5m is to go towards funding for new health research projects announced today by Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar. A total of 36 projects are being supported by the Health Research Board (HRB) over the next three to five years, including research into cancer, asthma, kidney injuries and antibiotics.

A €300 million research fund has been announced by the Government. Minister for Education Batt O'Keeffe launched the latest phase of his Programme for Research in Third-Level Institutions, which will run over the five years of 2009 to 2013.

Call For Govt To Back Long Term Investment In Housing
Significant long term investment in building houses is the only solution to the social housing crisis, Sinn Féin has said. The party has launched a motion calling on the government to introduce a suite of measures to tackle the crisis, including a €1bn house building programme, rent controls, Local Authority trusts and a deposit retention scheme.
