Mater To Open New Emergency Dept On Sunday

A new state-of-the-art emergency department will open at 10pm on Sunday night at Dublin’s Mater Hospital following the closure of the old facility at 04.00 am Sunday morning.

The new Emergency Department in the Whitty Building has 15 new single-patient examination cubicles for people with complex and urgent medical complaints.

It also provides for a 60% increase in capacity for resuscitating patients.

Access to the new Emergency Department will be via pedestrian and road access on Eccles Street.

During the 18 hour closure period, patients with minor injuries can attend the Mater Smithfield Rapid Injury Clinic in The Forge, beside the Smithfield Market.

Seriously ill patients should ring 999 or go to another Emergency Department during the closure period.
