First Road Fatality Of 2013
A 39-year-old man from Straboy, Glenties, Co Donegal, has died in a single vehicle road crash just before 9am on Tuesday morning, becoming the first fatality on Irish roads in 2013.
Packie Gildea died when a jeep he was driving collided with a large concrete pillar at Dooish outside Ballybofey on the road to Glenties.
Mr Gildea, a farmer, was taken by ambulance to Letterkenny General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A postmortem will be carried out on Wednesday.

Woman, 82, Dies In Road Accident
An 82-year-old woman has died following a road accident in Donegal. The crash occurred at around 3.50pm on Monday (18 August) at The Ross in Bundoran. Gardaí have said a car collided with a fence in the incident. The woman was transferred to Sligo Hospital but later died from her injuries. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí.

A 20-year-old Dublin man has been charged in connection with the stabbing of Mark Spellman in Sandymount on Saturday morning. Dane Pearse from the Irishtown area of south Dublin has been charged at Dublin District Court with serious assault and possession of a weapon.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses of a fatal road accident in Co Kerry. A 24-year-old man died when the car he was driving hit a wall on the N69 Tralee-Listowel Road in Glenballyma in Tralee. The accident happened at about 21:45 on Saturday. A post-mortem is due to be carried out today.

Truckers Withdraw Threats Of Further Protests
Truckers from the Irish Road Haulage Association has withdrawn threats of further protests. The Department of Transport has agreed for a meeting with Minister Noonan, Minister Donohoe and Minister Kelly to reach a satisfactory solution to the current HGV road tax issue. A date for a meeting is to be confirmed.
