Former Anglo Irish Chairman Arrested

The former chief executive and chairman of Anglo Irish Bank has been arrested.

64-year-old Seán FitzPatrick was arrested by appointment this morning and taken to the Bridewell Garda Station.

He is expected to appear before Dublin District Court on December 21.

The 12 charges against him relate to Section 197 of the Companies Act 1990.

Under the Act, it is an offence to knowingly or recklessly make a false, misleading or deceptive statement to the auditors of a company.

An investigation by the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation and the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement has led to the charges against Mr FitzPatrick.

He is also listed for trial on separate charges in a separate case in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court and is due to appear again in January.

Arrest Follows Skerries Body Discovery
Gardaí in Balbriggan have launched an investigation following the discovery of the body of a men in his 50s at a house in Mourne Park, Skerries, yesterday evening. The body was found at about 18:00. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

Three More Questioned Over Quinn Murder
Three men are being questioned by the PSNI about the brutal gang-murder of Co Armagh man Paul Quinn after three others were arrested by gardaí earlier. The three men arrested by the PSNI are from the Crossmaglen and Cullyhanna areas and while two are aged in their 50s, one is in his 20s.

Man Arrested Following Drugs Find
Drugs with an estimated street value of €170,000 have been seized by gardai during a raid on a property in west Dublin. Cocaine and cannabis was found during the raid at a house in Balgaddy. A gun and ammunition were also discovered. A 37-year=old has been arrested and is being detained at Ronanstown Garda Station.

Charges Follow Shell Protest
Eight people have been arrested following a protest at the Shell compound in Glengad, Co Mayo. The arrests were made after over 100 protestors took part in a demonstration against the work of the Shell facility in the area, and some attempted to gain entry through security fencing.
