Minister Pays Tribute To Gardí For Foiling Terrorist Plot
Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Justice Niall Collins has paid tribute to the gardaí for foiling a terrorist plot in Limerick over Christmas.
Deputy Collins has expressed grave concern about revelations in the Irish Independent today that IRA terrorists based in west Dublin and Limerick planned to murder a soldier while he visited his family in Limerick over Christmas.
Deputy Collins said: "This terrible attack has been prevented due to the perseverance of gardaí investigating terrorist activity in the wake of the funeral of gang criminal Alan Ryan in September.
"This sinister criminality has no place in our country and these thugs must be condemned in the strongest possible way. This particular murder plot was uncovered as a direct result of a major garda operation following the death of Alan Ryan that resulted in a series of arrests in Limerick. At the time, the arrests were criticised by a Limerick Sinn Féin Councillor, who described the operation as an 'overreaction'.
"I am again calling for unanimous political condemnation of this activity. There can be no ambiguity here. I would call again on Sinn Féin to distance themselves from the comments of their Limerick representative, and join all other mainstream political parties in condemning this plot.
"I intend to question the Minister for Justice Alan Shatter about this latest sinister development in the Dáil at the earliest possible opportunity. We must ensure that the gardaí have the necessary resources to continue these investigations."

Human Remains Confirmed As Missing Limerick Woman
Human remains found in Galway Bay on 29 November have been confirmed as those of missing Limerick woman, Maria Hennigar. The 35-year-old was reported missing on 22 November, although she had not been seen earlier that month.

An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a bone in Co Clare. A bone was found on Thursday, 22 September, on the Shannon riverbank at Doonass, Clonlara, on the Clare-Limerick border. Gardaí were called to the scene and are understood to have examined and photographed the scene before the bone was removed.

Man Dies In Limerick Collision
A man has died in a crash in Co Limerick. The car veered off the road and hit a ditch at Dromsallagh at around 4.15am on Sunday, 05 June. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man is currently being treated for his injuries at the University Hospital Limerick. The road has been re-opened.

Searches Launched Across Limerick City
Up to 20 searches are being carried out across Limerick City this morning, 26 April, as part of an operation targeting criminal activity. Gardaí launched the operation in the early hours of Tuesday morning and the operation is ongoing. One man, aged in his 20s, has been arrested under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.
