Aldi Reach Settlement Agreement With Tesco
Rival supermarkets Aldi and Tesco have reached a settlement after the German chain sued Tesco over inaccurate price comparisons.
The Commercial Court and Mr Justice Peter Kelly was told that Tesco agreed to pay a settlement of €150,000 in damages and to a number of undertakings regarding in-store price comparisons.
Aldi had alleged that Tesco infringed its trademarks in an in-store campaign that involved inaccurate and unfair comparisons between products sold by the two supermarket chains.
The discount retailer alleged that Tesco had failed to compare like with like, had not stated the correct sale price of relevant Aldi products and had failed to compare the relevant quantities.
Aldi says it will forward the €150,000 settlement to the St Vincent de Paul charity.

Employers Urged To Follow Example Of Aldi And Living Wage
Employers in Ireland have been encouraged to examine the business and social case for the Living Wage and the benefits it can bring to their staff. Minister for Business and Employment, Ged Nash, made the recommendation following an announcement that Aldi would adopt the Living Wage for all it's staff in Ireland.

Supermarket chain Aldi has announced that it will increase its minimum rate of pay to €11.50 per hour. Announcing the new rate of pay, which will come into affect on 01 February, 2016, Aldi Ireland said the chain has enjoyed a significant sustained sales growth and store expansion.

EU Court Says Minimum Cigarette Price Unlawful
The Court of Justice of the European Union has found Ireland's legislation on minimum price fixing for cigarettes contravenes EU law. The court found that similar laws in Austria and France were also in violation of a European Directive, which has rules on excise duty affecting the consumption of tobacco products.
