Search Resumes For Men Who Fled Crash Scene

Two men who fled the scene of a road traffic accident in Milltown, Co Galway last night, are still being sought by Gardaí.

Two other men, who were unable to free themselves from the back of the car following the collision, are being treated at Galway University Hospital for minor injuries.

Gardaí were monitoring the movements of a Volvo car in the Hollymount area of Co Mayo last night, before it crashed in the village of Milltown on the Galway-Mayo border.

The incident follows an overnight chase last weekend involving dozens of garda cars across a number of counties in the west.

Gardaí were pursuing a criminal gang suspected of carrying out a number of burglaries in the Galway-Mayo areas.

The gang were driving a high-powered silver Subaru, but the search was called off after a number of hours due to dense fog.

A joint policing committee in Ballinasloe this week was told there had been an alarming increase in the number of burglaries being carried out in the county.
