MCD Dispute €4,000 Hospital Bill
Concert promoters MCD are disputing a €4,000 hospital bill for the treatment of people injured at the Swedish House Mafia concert in the Phoenix Park last summer.
They were sent the bill in August by Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, which treated six people who had been stabbed.
The hospital treated 39 people who attended its A&E department after three concerts in the park on July 7, but it confirmed it has still not received any payment from MCD for the €4,085 invoice it had submitted.
The Mater Hospital treated eight people who required medical assistance after the Swedish House Mafia concert, but did not send any bill to MCD.
Labour TD Eamonn Maloney said it meant that a total of 47 people had required hospital treatment after the Phoenix Park concerts organised by MCD, and he called on the promoters to pay the Connolly bill.
"It was a private function, people paid good money to get in, they didn't pay money to be attacked. Why should the rest of us pay for this?" he asked.
Nine people in all were stabbed, and two young men died following suspected drug overdoses. Witnesses said the atmosphere at the event was terrifying.
The promoters defended their decision not to pay Connolly Hospital, saying in a statement: "At no stage were MCD advised, or requested in advance of the event, to make any payment towards any potential charges which may have been incurred by Connolly Memorial Hospital."

Four Injured In Apartment Fire
Four people, including a child, are receiving hospital treatment after being injured in a fire in Balbriggan, Co Dublin. Emergency services were call at around 01:00 on Friday to an apartment at Landy's Court, Millstreet. It is understood that two adults and a child were in the apartment.

Outpatient Waiting Lists 'Abysmal'
The government's record on outpatient waiting lists has been described as "abysmal", with new figures revealing a 323% increase in the number of people waiting more than 18 months for an outpatient appointment at University Hospital Galway – they're up from 1,184 in May 2016 to 5,008 at the end of January this year.
