Man Accused Of Abusing Six Sisters

A 52-year-old man has gone on trial accused of sexually assaulting six sisters over a 10-year period.

The accused, who can not be identified for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to 62 counts of sexually assaulting the six girls at their home on dates between 1995 and 2005.

Mary Rose Gearty, prosecuting, told the jury that the accused man had been in a relationship with the sisters' mother and lived with them.

Ms Gearty said some of the girls were as young as six years old when the sex abuse started.

The trial continues.

A 30-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the rape of two young girls in Athlone, Co Westmeath last Saturday afternoon. According to gardaí, two young girls, understood to be aged six and nine, were walking home from a party on Saturday when they were taken to a house and attacked.

Six Years 8 Months For Peru Smuggling Accused
Michaella McCollum and Melissa Reid have been given jail terms of six years and eight months for drug smiggling in Peru. McCollum, from Dungannon, Co Tyrone, and Reid, from Galsgow, were caught at Lima airport trying to board a flight to Spain carrying 11.5kg of cocaine in the baggage.
