Live Grenade Thrown Into Front Room Of House

Gardaí have said they are concerned about a criminal gang having access to live grenades following an attack on a house in north Dublin shortly after midnight yesterday.

A viable grenade was thrown through the front window of a house at Cloonlara Road in Finglas but failed to explode.

The house was unoccupied at the time but garda said people were living there.

An Army bomb disposal team was called in.

After an operation lasting more than an hour, the Army team set off a controlled explosion, which caused minor damage to the floor of the front room.

Gardai said last night they had not yet established a motive for the attack but were examining a number of theories.
