20,000 Litres Of Illegal Fuel Seized

One Irish man and another from Northern Ireland are being questioned after a a 40ft container, with 20,000 litres of laundered fuel was stopped in Dublin Port.

The load was being prepared to be exported, according to Customs officers.

The revenue said files were being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

An illicit plant with the capacity to produce more than two million litres of fraudulent diesel a year and evade £1.3m in excise duty per annum has been uncovered by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) in Co Down. Contraband Cigarettes Seized In Cork
Customs officers in Cork have seized 60,000 contraband cigarettes following an ongoing national investigation. Garda tip offs led them to focus on a Cambodian-registered freighter that docked in the city on Thursday. Forty-thousand cigarettes were found when the Defender vessel was searched at Cork Port early on Thursday morning.

Illegal Fuel Targeted In Border Operation
Money, vehicles and specialised 'mobile laundering plants' have been seized in a large-scale cross-border operation targeting fuel smuggling. A substantial amount of illegal fuel, reported by the BBC today as being in excess of 175,000 litres, was recovered in the operation.
