Labour Calls For Entitlement Clarification For Target Workers

Senator Marie Moloney has called for clarification on the social welfare entitlements for all Target Workers following the announcement that up to 400 jobs, 9 of which are in Tralee, have been lost after the closure of one of the country's largest haulage firms.

Workers for the Target company which have been issued an attachment order from the Revenue Commissioners as a last resort are still owed wages and Senator Moloney has some concerns on whether or not all employee contributions are up to date by the company.

"I have put in a call to the Department of Social Protection and the Minister responsible to seek clarification on the employee contributions paid by Target to ensure that all employees are entitled to full social welfare support at this traumatic time.

"Nearly 400 hundred families are heading into the start of a new school year, have mortgages and bills to pay and need support for every day living. These families have been dealt an awful blow following this closure. I am just hoping that all contributions have been paid on behalf of the workers so that the necessary supports can be adopted as quickly as possible."
