Hundreds Attend Funeral Of Maeve Binchy

Hundreds of people gathered today to attend the funeral of 72-year-old author Maeve Binchy.

The service took place in the Church of the Assumption in Dalkey, Co Dublin this morning.

Her remains have been taken to Mount Jerome Crematorium for a private service.

Many familiar faces attended including actress Brenda Fricker, writer Claudia Carroll and RTE broadcaster Pat Kenny.

Fr William Stuart conducted the service.

HSE Publishes 2017 National Service Plan
The Health Service Executive (HSE) has published its 2017 National Service Plan, following approval by the Minister for Health, Simon Harris. The plan details the delivery of health services that the HSE will provide directly, and through a range of funded agencies, in 2017.

A customer service survey has been launched seeking the views of users of the Passport Service in an effort to improve customer service standards. Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Charlie Flanagan, launched the survey, which he said would shape the ongoing reform of how Irish passports are produced and delivered.

Service Industries Continue To Improve
The value of the service industry in Ireland increased by 1.4% in July when compared with June, while in the year to July, there was an increase of 5.3%. The figures have been released by the Central Statistics Office through its Monthly Services Index, which measures the value of the service industries across the country.

Prince Of Wales To Visit Scene Of Mountbatten Murder
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall are to visit Monaghmore, today, 20 May, where his great-uncle Lord Mountbatten and three other people were killed by the Provisional IRA 36 years ago. After a prayer service of Peace and Reconciliation at St Columba's Church in Drumcliffe, they will meet members of the local community in Monaghmore.

President Higgins In Belgium For WWI Commemoration
President Michael D Higgins is attending an international ceremony in Liège, Belgium, to mark the beginning of World War One. President Higgins joins some 50 heads of state commemorating the anniversary.
