Gardai in Drogheda Investigate Death Of A Man

Gardai in Drogheda are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a 53 year old male on the 24th of July 2012.

The man was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, on the 22nd of July and later removed to Beaumont Hospital where he was pronounced dead this afternoon yesterday.

The State Pathologist has been notified and a post mortem examination is due to take place at the City Morgue this afternoon. No further information is available at this time pending the outcome of the examination.

Gardai are appealing for information and in particular for witnesses to an incident which occurred at the junction of Bessexwell Lane and Shop Street, Drogheda, on Thursday 19th July.

Search For Man Who Stole Garda Car
A hunt has been launched for a man that stole a Garda vehicle before driving it over the border and alighting in South Armagh. Gardaí said they are searching for the man who was stopped by two gardaí driving near Lusk, Co Dublin, at around 9.30pm on Sunday night. He was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and placed in the garda car.

INMO Members Hold Further Protests
Nurses and midwives, members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), SIPTU and the PNA, are to hold further lunchtime protests. The action is being taken today (2 March) in a number of locations. It is in response to a proposed 50% increase in the annual retention fee being sought by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).

Drivers Urged To Take Extra Care On The Roads
Motorists have been urged to take extra care on the roads due to snowfall overnight. On minor roads, ice and snow are causing major problems. Cavan, Drogheda, Monaghon, Kells, Greystones, Navan and Kilkenny city have particularly been affected by heavy snow. It will be very cold and windy today with frequent showers, according to Met Eireann.
