Dail Committee Meeting On Mick Wallace Tax Affairs

A statement is expected today following a meeting of the Dáil Committee on Members' Interests to discuss Independent TD Mick Wallace's tax affairs.

The committee meeting was being held in private.

A decision on whether the Dáil should debate the controversy will be taken after the committee reaches a conclusion on whether it can or should investigate the matter.

Speaking in the Dáil after Deputy Wallace apologised to the Ceann Comhairle for what he said was his lack of understanding of standing orders, Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said the Government will make a decision on allowing a debate very shortly.

The Ceann Comhairle said it was open to the Government to allow a debate in its own time, but suggested the matter rest until the Members' Interests Committee met.

Last week, Deputy Wallace admitted that his company under-declared VAT and came to a €2.1m settlement with the Revenue Commissioners.
